One Night Only | Queen and Friend

Performing at King Lear’s Throne, improvisation comedy duo Queen and Friend delivered a show that was as hilarious as it was impressive.

The audience decided on the direction that the performance would taken by voting through a QR code on our mobile phones. These directions included the location of the story, which characters we would follow, what secrets they were heading and whether or not someone would die. This story morphed into one of a misunderstood peacock whose talons were so sharp they could destroy a bowling alley, her father the eagle who had an unhealthy fetish for mice and his absent wife the albatross woman who had sixteen and lived by a moral code to “never lie, but always cheat”.

You could tell comedians Mark and Imogen were having a ball switching from one character to the next and taking the story in unexpected directions. It was mighty impressive how they seamlessly wove these stories without any preparation or insight and how the performers never seemed to lose momentum in their hour long run time. It’s one thing to do improv for ten minutes but to do it for sixty minutes non-stop is not an easy feat for the faint of heart. But faint of heart, these comedians were not.

The stage was their playground and Queen and Friends did not disappoint. Looking forward to seeing their Yule Tide special in December.
