We are always looking to expand our pool of writers. We are proactively looking for diverse writers to deconstruct the stage. It’s super boring when the same type of person always writes about art. How is the opinion of [insert stereotypical older white male reviewer] relevant to the experience of the rest of us artlovers? Do they even get art as the rest of us understand it?
We are interested in people with loads of experience, and people with none at all. We want people reviewing knowledgeably about their works, and we want them offering the naïve perspective. It’s super important that LGBTIQA+ people, people of colour and people with disabilities get to critique art - we never get to see our opinions reflected in the media, let alone get to critique works for and about us.
With that in mind, Nothing Ever Happens is actively and especially looking to recruit people with some/all/any of the following intersections:
Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander people of all ages
Teenage arts workers and creatives (you will have to be 18+ to attend many shows but we will see what we can do for the young ‘uns)
Older people 60+ who were part of the counter-culture movements of the 60s and 70s
People with physical disabilities and neuro-diverse people
First and Second generation Australians with diverse family backgrounds
LGBTIQX+
People with an interest/knowledge/experience/passion for street art, zine making, alternative art collectives, weird shit
People with a compelling reason to write
We currently pay small fees for reviews and articles, contract fees are discussed upon application. Check out our Manifesto and head to Subscribe for more details on how we pay the dollars and stay 100% independent.
We are limited in the number of writers we can offer opportunities to at any one point in time. We are making this up as we go along. It’s a fun ride. Please introduce yourself and we will be in touch.
