Tell us about the show in 100 words or less

Join me for an unforgettable experience when I present The Great First Nations Songbook: A Night of Swing and Soul! This concert-length performance features the beloved hits of Australia's iconic First Nations musicians, reimagined with the electrifying flair of 60s big band music.

As a proud Quandamookan singer-songwriter, I’m excited to captivate audiences with toe-tapping rhythms and soulful melodies. You'll get a unique glimpse into my creative journey as I bring the best of Blak Australian music to new audiences and new heights.

It's more than a concert; it's a celebration of heritage, harmony, and Dreamtime Swing!

Tell us about your venue. What is it about your space that adds to your audience experience?

The The Great First Nations Songbook: A Night of Swing and Soul will premiere at the regional Redlands Performance Arts Centre, Cleveland.  The concert hall seating offers both comfort and intimacy for a space of this size guaranteeing audiences will be immersed in cultural expression no matter where you are.

What is your creative process like?

I like to immerse myself with similar creatives who enjoy the space of ‘what if?’  I also listen, read and watch a lot of creative material – a writing pad is never too far away.  A lead role is only ever as strong as it’s supporting cast and it take a village to raise a creative idea.  You never want to be the smartest in the room, so surround yourself with creative experts who believe in the creative process and are willing to do the work towards excellence.

Tell us your origin story. How did your show start?

John Farnham released a record called ‘The Great Australian Songbook’ in the early 2000’s and I merely enhanced the idea and coloured it in.  There are so many great First Nations singer/songwriters in Australia, this was my chance to take their voices to the nation.

Who is your perfect audience member? Who is going to LOVE this event?

Someone who enjoys the art of playfulness, humour and magic.  To compose pop, rock, blues, soul, country and contemporary adult reimagined into a jazz composition takes a long time to do.  It takes working with musical masters or magicians to pull off the prestige…

Is there anything else we simply MUST know about the show?

It’s world premiere of a unique show full of fun, laughter and toe tapping big band music – come and enjoy the musical sounds of The Great First Nations songbook!

The Great First Nations Songbook: A Night of Swing and Soul premieres at Redland Performing Arts Centre on Saturday 19 October for one night only.
