Our host Natrasha Binit loves all kinds of trash…even you

We’re chatting to Darcie Rae, producer and performer for Glitter Martini, about ‘Absolute Trash’.

Darcie is a dance trapeze artist who creates circus shows for adults under the name Glitter Martini. Glitter Martini presented Social Distance Slumber Party online with Anywhere is 2020, and 2021 will see the premier of Absolute Trash.

Tell us about the show in 100 words or less

Join Natrasha Binit and their riff riff group of circus artists and other waste material doe and evening of Absolute Trash. Absolute Trash is a circus cabaret show featuring aerialists, hand-balancing, contortion, foolery, and plenty of audience interaction, themed around waste. Absolute Trash is a joyous night out, with talented performers and opportunity for audience participation.

Anywhere Festival takes place anywhere but a theatre. Tell us about your venue. What is it about your space that adds to your audience experience?

With the exception of Arcana, Absolute Trash will be performed in industrial spaces. The Gold Coast shows are at a work yard for commercial waste management, and the West End show is a big undercover carpark.

What is your creative process like?

I start with a general idea of what I’d like the show to be/feel like, and I spend a lot of time brainstorming concepts and creating a long Spotify playlist. After I’m happy with the general shape of the show I present music and concept to the artists involved and work with the artists on their individual acts to bring the show to life.

Tell us your origin story. How did your company start?

Glitter Martini was born out of a love for circus in an adult variety show context. In 2018 I registered the name Glitter Martini, with the first show presented at Arcana in February 2019. It is nice to be back there a couple of years later with a much stronger show.

Who is your perfect audience member? Who is going to LOVE this event?

Absolute Trash is recommended for ages 15+. It’s perfect for people who love the spectacle of circus and the laughs of a variety show.

Is there anything else we simply MUST know about the show?

Our host Natrasha Binit loves all kinds of trash…even you. Take yourself out to the trashiest show of the Anywhere festival, we can’t wait to see you.

Absolute Trash shows as part of Anywhere Festival 7th, 8th, 14th, 15th May 2021 at various venues including Australian Tanks Molendinar, Arcana Moorooka, and GetParked West End. Check show listings for details.
